NFCA Leadoff Classic softball tournament cancelled

COLUMBUS, Ga. - After steady rain showers that left more than two inches of rain in the Columbus, Ga. Area, the 2006 NFCA Leadoff Classic softball tournament has been cancelled. Southern Illinois University finishes the event 2-0 after beating Michigan State and Seton Hall during the first day of play.

This is the fourth time in the tournament's 11-year history that inclement weather has shortened the event. The tournament was also affected by rain in 2001, 2003 and 2005.

The Salukis (7-1) return to action March 4-5 with the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic in Carbondale, Ill. Northern Illinois, Iowa and the University of Illinois-Chicago will travel to Carbondale for the two-day event that begins Saturday at 10 a.m.
