Cooper named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - After carding a career-best round of 5-under-par 67 at the Bearkat Classic and a tie for third in the Crown Classic last week, Southern Illinois University's Chad Cooper was named Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Thursday.
Cooper is the first SIU men's golfer to receive the honor this season. He achieves the honor after leading the Salukis in both of their tournaments last week.
The senior from Lafayette, Ind. fired rounds of 76-67-76--219 to lead SIU with a tie for 11th at the Sam Houston State Bearkat Classic.
He returned to action two days later as the Salukis participated in the Stephen F. Austin Crown Classic. Cooper finished the tournament with a 1-under-par 143 to finish in a tie for third, his best finish of the season.
His play while in Texas improves his season stroke average to 74.00, good enough for 10th in the Valley.
The SIU men's golf team will take the week off this week and return to action April 3 with the Branson Creek Invitational in Branson, Mo.
