Men's Tennis sweeps Creighton 7-0

Omaha, Neb. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team won six singles matches and two doubles matches in their 7-0 victory over Creighton in Omaha, Neb. Sunday morning.
In doubles play Feilpe Villasenor and Sergio Sanchez teamed to defeat Eduardo Pignatari and Nikita Dudar 8-3 in the number two match. The Salukis also won the number three match as Tomas Gonzalez and Bojan Ilievski paired to win over Jose Guerra and Chris Miller 8-3. The two wins earned the Salukis the doubles point.
In singles action SIU was perfect, not even losing a set. Villasenor got things started in the number one match by defeating Guerra 7-5, 6-0. Rodrigo Lama won in the second match against Dudar 6-3, 7-6 (6).
At the three spot Sanchez improved his singles record to 16-4 with a 6-1, 7-6 (2) win over Vinny Meens. Andrei Bubnov made it 13 in a row as he won in the four match 6-0, 6-3.
Gonzalez and Ilievski also won their matches at the five and six spots respectively. Gonzalez defeated Joe Eckert 6-2, 6-4, while Ilievski took down Miller 6-3, 6-1.
"It was a good day," Saluki tennis coach Dann Nelson said. "We just needed to take care of business. The team did what they had to do."
With the win the Salukis improve to 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the MVC. The Salukis wrap up regular season play next weekend at home against Bradley and Illinois State.
"We are looking forward to next weekend," Nelson said "Both matches are going to be very tough."
