CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team will host two home games in the final weekend of regular season play. The Salukis will host Bradley on Saturday and Illinois State on Sunday in their last action before the MVC Tournament April 28-29.
SIU is coming off a 7-0 win against Creighton in Omaha, Neb. last Sunday. The Salukis are currently 11-7 overall and 2-3 in the MVC. Freshman Andrei Bubnov has won 13 singles matches in a row, while junior Sergio Sanchez has singles record of 16-4.
Bradley comes in with a 5-11 overall record and 1-4 in MVC play. The Braves lost their last match to Wichita State 7-0.
"We match up well against Bradley," said Saluki tennis coach Dann Nelson. They are a really good team and well coached. When Bradley is on, they can beat anyone. They beat us last year 4-3 and we want to repay that to them."
Illinois State meanwhile, is 13-6 overall and undefeated in conference play at 5-0. In their last outing the Redbirds defeated Missouri State 5-2.
"The team is ready for Illinois State," Nelson said. "We are going to give them a heck of a match and do everything we can to knock them off."
The Saturday match against Bradley is scheduled for 1 p.m. and Sunday starts at 10 a.m. Both matches will be played on the University courts. If there is inclement weather the matches will be moved inside at Sports Blast.
