CARBONDALE, Ill. - Freshman Andrei Bubnov won his 14th singles match in a row as the Southern Illinois men's tennis team lost to Bradley 4-3. The Braves won the doubles point and three of the singles matches to take the win.
In doubles play Feilpe Villasenor and Sergio Sanchez won the number two match over Marko Marevic and Alex Roby 8-5. That was the only singles match the Salukis won as Rodrigo Lama and Bubnov lost the number on match 8-4, and Tomas Gonzalez and Bojan Ilievski fell in the number three match 8-5.
"The doubles point was the deciding factor in the match," Saluki men's tennis coach Dann Nelson said. "We worked on doubles all week and there was no reason for us to not play well today."
In singles action Sanchez defeated Brian Hanus 6-3, 6-4 in the number three match. Bubnov won the number four match over Evgeny Samoylou 6-4, 6-0. Bubnov is undefeated in conference play with just one MVC match remaining Sunday against Illinois State.
"Andrei had another great match today and played really well," Nelson said.
In the number five singles match Gonzalez won over Matt Metully 7-5, 6-7, (10-6). The Salukis finish conference play Sunday as they host Illinois State at 10 a.m. on the University Courts. The Redbirds are undefeated in conference play at 6-0. In the case of inclement weather the match will be moved to the Sports Blast.
