Men's tennis blanked 7-0 by Illinois State

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Illinois State men's tennis team finished the Missouri Valley Conference season undefeated as they beat Southern Illinois 7-0 Sunday.
In doubles play Andrei Bubnov and Bojan Ilievski lost in the number one match to Oscar Beich and Alban Renard 8-5. In the second match Feilpe Villasenor and Sergio Sanchez defeated the Redbirds 8-6. The third match went to Luka Marinkovic and Daniel Tobar of Illinois State as they won 8-6 over Tomas Gonzalez and Rodrigo Lama giving the Redbirds the doubles point.
The Redbird swept the Salukis in singles play winning all six matches. Lama lost in the number one match to Yohann Nograbat 6-4, 6-4. Sanchez fell at the two spot 6-3, 6-4. Sanchez finishes the season with a 17-5 overall singles record.
Nuno Jacinto defeated Villasenor in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-0. Gonzalez lost the number four match 6-4, 6-4, to Djordje Uskokovic.
Bubnov was defeated by Marinkovic 6-2, 7-6 in his first conference loss. Bubnov finished conference play with a 6-1 singles record. In the final match Ilievski fell 6-1, 6-3 in the number six match.
"We actually played pretty good today," Saluki tennis coach Dann Nelson said. "We played a lot better than yesterday, Illinois State is just a really tough team."
With the loss the Salukis finish the season with an 11-9 overall record and a 2-5 record in the MVC. The MVC Tournament begins Friday, April 28th.
