Mixon named Gateway Conference Defensive Player of the Week

CARBONDALE, Ill.-Southern Illinois University linebacker Chauncey Mixon is this week's Gateway Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

A native of Mobile, Ala., Mixon registered a career and game-high 14 tackles in the Salukis' 24-17 win over No. 10 Youngstown State. He also recorded one sack and 2.5 tackles for loss.

Mixon sacked Penguin QB Tom Zetts for a loss of five yards on YSU's last possession. The key play forced the Penguins to take their final timeout with 27 seconds left.

Mixon and the Saluki defense limited YSU to 17 points, the Penguins' lowest point total in five games.
