Seventeen Salukis earn Gateway Football All-Conference honors

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University had a combined 17 student-athletes named to the 2007 Gateway Football All-Conference Team.
QB Nick Hill (Sr., DuQuoin, Ill.), OL Darren Marquez (Sr., New Orleans, La.), DE James Cloud (Jr., Hackensack, N.J.), DB Clayton Johnson (Jr., Miami, Fla.), P Scott Ravanesi (So., Carol Stream, Ill.) and RS Craig Turner (Sr., Boutte, La.) garnered first-team honors.
RB John Randle (Sr., Wichita, Kan.), FB Rick Burgess (So., Palm Beach, Fla.), WR Justin Allen (Sr., Glenpool, Okla.), OL Aaron Lockwood (Jr., Topeka, Kan.), DL Larry Luster (Sr., Springfield, Ill.), LB Brandin Jordan (So., Kenner, La.) and LB Chauncey Mixon (So., Mobile, Ala.) followed on the second-team.
TE Ryan Kernes (So., Bloomington, Ill.), LB Trevor Moe (Sr., Garrett, Ind.), OL Shawn Smith (So., Hutchinson, Kan.) and WR Alan Turner (Sr., El Paso, Ill.) rounded out the group as honorable mention picks.
SIU's combined 13 selections between the first and second teams were second-most to Northern Iowa, who had 14.
UNI became the first Gateway school to sweep the league's top three specialty awards in seven seasons. QB Eric Sanders was the Offensive Player-of-the-Year, LB Brannon Carter was the Defensive Player-of-the-Year and Mark Farley was Coach-of-the-Year.
