Nelson receives Midwest Section USTA/ITA Community Service Award

SKILLMAN, N.J. - Southern Illinois men's tennis head coach Dann Nelson is the recipient of the USTA/ITA Community Service Award - Midwest Section, as announced Friday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
"It is truly an honor to be selected for this award and to be associated with all of the sectional winners," said Nelson.
The award honors ITA coaches for significant contributions in developing community-based tennis programs throughout the local community.
Since Nelson established the Saluki Tennis Academy in June 2006, it has conducted numerous adult clinics and over 50 junior clinics.
"Here at SIU, we are very proud of the Academy and the service it provides to the tennis community in Carbondale and the surrounding area," said Nelson. "The Academy has been a great vehicle to introduce our varsity players to the tennis community and the response we have had has been amazing."
Nelson was one of only two Missouri Valley Coaches to receive the award, Drake University's Chase Hodges was also a sectional recipient.
