CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University junior James Cloud was named this week's Gateway Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
A native of Hackensack, N.J., Cloud notched a career-high nine tackles, including four for loss and one sack in the Salukis' comeback win at Western Illinois Saturday.
Cloud had three solo tackles and assisted on six others.
WIU moved the ball to SIU's 44-yard line on the final drive of the game when Cloud, along with teammate Devon Reese, dropped Leatherneck freshman quarterback Matt Barr for a loss of two yards.
On the next play, Cloud sacked Barr for a loss of eight yards, pushing WIU all the way back to its own 46. The huge play ended all Leatherneck chances of getting into field goal range.
Cloud garners the honor for the first time in his Saluki career.
