This Week
The Salukis go on the final road trip of the regular season to Drake and Creighton Friday and Sunday. A 7:05 p.m. tip-off on Mediacom is scheduled for Friday at Drake. SIU will take on the Blue Jays Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
Last Week - Milestones
The Salukis swept the Bradley-UNI home swing with come-from-behind wins in both contests. SIU beat Bradley Friday, 55-50, then SIU picked up a 49-46 victory Sunday against UNI. The Salukis swept both teams this season, the Panthers for the first time since 1997 and the Braves the first time since 2000. Both games were in front of the best home crowds of the MVC season this year (1,125 - Friday; 1,407 - Sunday).
Salukis make first poll appearance
SIU snuck into the week 15 national polls, receiving one vote in the USA Today Poll. They are tied for 37th along with Florida State, Liberty, LIU Brooklyn, N.C. State and Old Dominion, all with one vote.
Best MVC Start
The Salukis' 11-2 start to the Missouri Valley Conference season gives the team its best opening since joining the conference in 1991-92. They now sit alone in first place with the most victories ahead of Illinois State at 10-3. The last time the Salukis won a conference title was in 1989-90 when they finished tied for first in the Gateway Conference. The 11 league victories are the most since 1995-96.
Salukis snapped at six, win 12 of last 14
Southern Illinois had a six-game win streak snapped by Indiana State Feb. 2. The streak marks the first time since 1995-96 that Southern had won six in a row. SIU has won 12 of its last 14 games dating back to Dec. 19. The Sycamores also put a blemish on the Dawgs undefeated road record in The Valley, now 6-1 in MVC play. The Salukis won seven straight during MVC play 11 years ago, under former head coach Cindy Scott.
