Men first, women second in McDonald's Invitational

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University's men's track and field team won the McDonald's Invitational earlier today at the SIU Rec Center.
The Salukis scored a total of 202 points, while Memphis (147 pts.), Chicago State (32 pts.), Saint Louis (23 pts.) and Lipscomb (19 pts.) rounded out the top-five.
Brenton Siemons, Antwon Stapleton and Sammy Biggs each won their respective events to pave the way.
Siemons won the shot put (55-07.50, 16.95m), Stapleton took first in the triple jump (48-08.00, 14.83m) and Biggs won the 400-meter dash (50.27).
SIU's 4x400 relay team of Biggs, Jonathon Daniel, Brett Brachear and Antoine Jennings capped the day with a second-place time of 3:21.68.
On the women's side, SIU (118.5 pts.) took second behind Memphis (135 pts.).
Bianca Stuart and Terri Counts had keyed the Salukis with first-place finishes. Stuart was victorious in the 60-meter dash (7.75) and Counts won the 60-meter hurdles (9.21).
Marquita Vines, Kendra Deck, A'Seret Dokubo and Nefeteri Williams teamed up to win the 4x400 with a season-best time of 4:01.21.
SIU returns to action at the Iowa State Classic on Feb. 9-10.
