Men's Tennis tops IUPUI, 6-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team defeated Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) by a score of 6-1 yesterday in their home opener.
The Salukis improved their record to 5-3 while IUPUI dropped to 1-9 on the season.
SIU won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Felipe Villasenor and Lucas Waked teamed up to knock off Javier Saab and E.J. Dechow, 8-1. Rodrigo Lama and Hugo Vidal wrapped up the doubles point with an 8-0 win.
The Salukis cruised through singles competition, winning five of the six matches in straight sets.
Villasenor beat Ross Gellhausen 6-2, 6-4. Lama swept past Saab, 6-4, 7-5. Vidal defeated Gregory Sosa, 6-2, 6-1. Waked had no problem with Blake Powers, winning the match 6-0, 6-0. Nick Bauer beat Dean Guyer, 6-2, 7-5.
The Salukis will take a week off before returning home Saturday, March 24 to host Northern Illinois at 1 p.m.
