CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win today, beating the University of Illinois at Chicago and the weather.
The Salukis finished their last match of the day just as rain began to fall at the University Courts on SIU's campus.
The match began at 11 a.m. with doubles action. The Dawgs had to battle very windy conditions, but still picked up the doubles point winning in both No. 1 and No. 3 action.
Rodrigo Lama and Hugo Vidal won easily, defeating Adriano Liccardo and Sam Sweeney 8-3. Lucas Waked and Felipe Villasenor fell 8-4 to Bastian Harbo and Eric Fey in No. 2 action.
Sergio Sanchez and Karl Nilsson clinched the doubles point with a 9-8 (7) victory over Sebastian Lystad and Andy Lockhart.
The Salukis began doubles play ahead 1-0 and did not look back. The Dawgs won four of the six singles matches, all in straight sets to pick up the 5-2 win.
SIU will be back in action tomorrow when they host Western Illinois at the University Courts at 11 a.m.
