Men's Tennis falls to No. 53 Drake, 4-0

CARBONDALE, Ill. - After being forced indoors due to inclement weather conditions, the Southern Illinois men's tennis team fell to the No. 53 Drake Bulldogs, 4-0.
The match, which was played at the Salukis' indoor facility, began with the Bulldogs sweeping the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The No. 44 nationally ranked duo of Maor Zirkin and Dalibor Pavic beat Sergio Sanchez and Karl Nilsson 8-3 at No.1.
Sergi Vila and Ivan Mendoza beat Lucas Waked and Felipe Villasenor at No. 2 8-7. Guilherme Marsiglia and Bokang Setshogo secured the sweep with an 8-5 win over Rodrigo Lama and Hugo Vidal in No. 3 double action.
With the decision made prior to the match to play to the score of 4-0, the Bulldogs put the Salukis away after only three singles matches.
Zirkin, ranked 14 regionally in singles, beat Villasenor 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play. Vila, ranked 10th regionally, beat Sanchez 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2. Breno Salvany struggled in his first match as a Saluki since becoming eligible last week. Salvany dropped his match 6-0, 6-0 to the No. 25 regionally ranked Pavic at No. 3.
The Salukis (10-6, 1-3 MVC) will return to action tomorrow when they host conference foe Creighton at 10 a.m.
