SEMO AND SIU MEET AGAIN
Southern Illinois and SE Missouri State meet for the second time in eight days. The Salukis beat the Redhawks, 7-2, in Cape Girardeau on April 10. SIU has won three-straight midweek games and is 4-1 versus Ohio Valley Conference opponents this season.
DAWGS ON THREE-GAME LOSING STREAK
SIU looks to rid itself of a three-game losing streak Wednesday. The Salukis were recently swept by No. 11 Wichita State last weekend. The three-game losing skid is SIU's longest of 2007.
SINGLED OUT
The Salukis registered a total of 33 hits over their last three games, 29 of which were singles. Only 22 percent (80 of 371) of SIU's hits have gone for extra bases through 35 games this season.
GOING FOR FOUR
SIU won each of its last three games against SEMO at Abe Martin Field. The Salukis are 16-5 in Carbondale and currently have the most home victories in the Missouri Valley Conference.
REDHAWK KILLERS
Mark Kelly and Kevin Koski have had their way with SEMO throughout their Saluki careers. Kelly boasts a .455 (5-for-11) batting average with two runs scored, two doubles and two RBI in three games against the Redhawks. Koski holds a .423 clip (11-for-26) with four runs, two doubles, six walks and a .559 on-base percentage in seven games.
ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
SEMO moved into sole possession of the OVC after winning two of three against the league's preseason favorite, Samford, last weekend. Pitching wise, the Redhawks sport a league-best 3.60 ERA. Offensively, SEMO is hitting .281 and has gone 10-straight games with under 10 hits. Also, the Redhawks' have scored no more than three runs in six of their last 10 contests.
