CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois' Brittany Riley set a new Drake Relays record in the hammer throw Saturday throwing 237 feet, 11 inches to win the event by nearly 18 feet. The throw also set a new SIU, Missouri Valley Conference and Drake Stadium record. The three-time All-American is undefeated in seven meets this season in the event.
Triple jumper Antwon Stapleton finished sixth in his event with a final jump of 50-08, the top finish for the men at Drake.
Other finishes Saturday at the relays included a 12th-place sprint medley relay finish for Antoine Jennings, Brett Brachear, Sammy Biggs and Greg McBride in 2:24.11 and a 20th-place finish in the hammer for Joe Mueller with a throw of 185-00.
The women's 4x800 relay of Ty Davis, Katie Ringelestein, A'Seret Dokubo and Toni Whitfield finished sixth in 8:57.65, while the 4x200 relay of Leslie Murillo, April Heath, Bianca Stuart and Andrea Norris finished eighth in 1:40.20. Stuart also jumped 18-10.50 for a 15th-place finish in the long jump.
The rest of the team traveled to SIU-Edwardsville to take part in the SIUE Twilight, picking up four meet titles.
For the women, Sasha Leeth won the hammer with a career-best toss of 182-08.25.
Kyle Monroe won the men's steeplechase in 9:41.63, while Brenton Siemons took the shot put title with a toss of 55-08.25. In the pole vault, Blake Brachear jumped 15-09 for the win.
Other top finishes for the Salukis include second and third-place finishes in the triple jump for Mikeya Nicholson (39-09.75) and Judeka Adams (38-03.75) respectively. Brittani Christensen finished second for the Salukis in the 3000 in 10:27.73.
Also picking up third-place finishes, Cherylynn Schilling in the 1500 (4:56.79), Toni Whitfield in the 800 (2:16.28) and Tom Smith in the hammer with a toss of 170-05.75.
The teams will be back in action May 4 at the Billy Hayes Relays in Bloominton, Ind.
