Men's Tennis Splits Two MVC Matches

The Southern Illinois men's tennis team split two Missouri Valley Conference matches this weekend, losing to Illinois State 4-3 on Friday and beating Bradley 4-3 on Saturday.
SIU won the doubles point over Illinois State by taking two of three matches. Felipe Villasenor and Lucas Waked beat Yohann Nograbat and Alfredo Lagarda 8-6 at No. 1. Rodrigo Lama and Hugo Vidal secured the doubles point with a win at No. 3 over Oscar Beich and Nuno Jacinto, 8-6.
The Redbirds struck back in singles, winning four matches to clinch the overall match victory. Sergio Sanchez picked up a win in No. 2 singles over Lagarda, 6-3, 6-2. Waked picked up the Salukis' other singles win in No. 6 action over Beich, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
On Saturday, the Salukis (10-4, 1-2 MVC) dropped the doubles point to the Braves (4-6, 0-1 MVC). SIU's only doubles win came from Lama and Vidal in No. 3 action as they knocked off Richard Robertson and Matt Metully 9-4.
Trailing 1-0 the Salukis responded by winning four singles matches to clinch the victory. Villasenor beat Evgeny Samoylov 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 singles. Vidal beat Ismael Rodrigo 6-3, 7-6 in No. 3 action.
Lama won 6-1, 6-0 over Matt Metully in No. 4 play. Waked defeated Alex Roby 6-3, 6-2.
The Salukis will be back in action Saturday, April 14 when they host Drake at 10 a.m.
