Football ranked in several Top-25 preseason polls

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University is ranked in several NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision Top-25 preseason polls entering 2007.

Most recently, Sports Media Entertainment Network tabbed SIU 10th in its first-ever national FCS poll and College Sporting News ranked the Salukis 12th in the last week.

The Gateway Football Conference placed four teams in the Top-25, including SIU, Youngstown State, Northern Iowa and Illinois State. Defending national champion Appalachian State was picked first.

SIU went 9-4 and made its fourth-straight NCAA Division I FCS appearance a year ago. The Dawgs open their season against Quincy College on Aug. 30 at McAndrew Stadium.
