Vidal, Salvany reach finals at MVC Individual Championship

OMAHA, Neb. - The Salukis continued action today at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championship, with Hugo Vidal and Breno Salvany reaching the finals of their flight in singles.

Vidal used his consistency to his advantage in windy conditions defeating Jon Sigurdsson of Indiana State 6-3, 6-4. He will face Xavier Riart-Ferrer of Illinois State tomorrow.

Salvany came back from one set down to win his semifinal match against Creighton's James McAvoy 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 to put him in the finals.

Felipe Villasenor and Lucas Waked played a strong doubles match against Maor Zirkin and Dalibor Pavic of Drake before falling 8-4.

"We were up 4 to 2 and had two chances to win the point for 5 to 2. They broke our serve three times, and that proved to be the difference," said head coach Dann Nelson.

"The way our guys played shows that they can compete with the best teams in the conference."

The finals will take place Sunday in Omaha, wrapping up the MVC Individual Championship.
