Women's Basketball falls to Evansville, 77-67

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Evansville women's basketball team used a 10-point run to open the second half en route to a 10-point victory over Southern Illinois, 77-67, in Missouri Valley Conference play Saturday night at Roberts Stadium.
The Salukis led the majority of the first half, their largest lead of six at the 14-minute mark. Southern went up four on a jumper by Jayme Sweere for two of her 20 first-half points with just under two minutes to play in the half before the Purple Aces answered with a jumper of their own with just under 40 seconds of the period, the Salukis taking a two-point lead, 37-35, into the locker room at the half.
After the Aces started the second half on their 10-point run, they went on to lead by as many as 15 with just under seven minutes to play.
Sweere led the Salukis with a career-high 33 points, bringing her career total to 979 career points, just 21 away from the 1,000-point mark.
Erin Pauk put up her fourth-straight double-digit effort with 10 points and three assists, while Ellen Young added an identical 10 points and three assists.
The Purple Aces put four players in double-digits, led by Rebekah Parker with 20 points. Shannon Novosel added 15, while Amy Gallagher added 10.
Southern Illinois will stay on the road traveling to Northern Iowa and Bradley next weekend. The Salukis will take on the Panthers Thursday, Jan. 31 for a 7 p.m. tip-off, then face the Braves Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
