CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's golf coach Leroy Newton signed Jeff Miller (Centralia, Ill./Centralia H.S.) to a National Letter of Intent on Monday. Miller, along with Jake Erickson, will make up the freshman class of 2009-2010.
Miller was a four-time qualifier for the Illinois State tournament, and finished fifth individually as a junior and senior. He was also named the All-Metro East Player of the Year in his final two seasons at Centralia High School.
"Jeffrey has accomplished so much in high school, and will be a great addition to the team next year," said Newton. "We expect him to keep learning, because he has the potential to be a very good college golfer."
In his four-year varsity career, Miller helped lead Centralia to four conference titles, as well as the school's first team sectional championship and a second place at the state tournament this past fall.
He was also chosen all-state as a junior and senior, selected all-south and all-conference three times, and shot a 73 to win the conference championship as a junior.
In addition to his high school success, Miller won the Oakland University PGA series event with a 36-hole 149 (76,73), and qualified for the Jr. PGA Championship this past summer.
