AMES, Iowa - The Southern Illinois track and field teams began competition at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa today.
The Salukis got off to a great start as senior thrower Brittany Riley won the weight throw with her season-best throw of 79-06.75 (24.25m). The mark won the event by over 11 feet and automatically qualified Riley for the NCAA Indoor Championship meet for the sixth time this season.
Trent McKinney was SIU's top finisher in the men's long jump, tying for 13th place with a jump of 22-11.75 (7.00m).
On the women's side, Bianca Stuart won the long jump event with a jump of 20-03.00 (6.17m).
Nick Waninger finished sixth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:34.47.
Andrea Norris placed 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.80 seconds. For the men, Brandon Deloney notched an 18th-place finish in the event with a time of 21.86 seconds.
The meet will continue tomorrow with the final day of competition.
