CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University track and field team traveled to Charleston, Ill. for Eastern Illinois University's Friday Night Special today.
The Salukis had 14 athletes with top-five finishes at the event.
Joe Mueller collected SIU's top finish with a win in the weight throw event with a mark of 63-00.00 (19.20m). Thomas Smith finished fourth in the event with a throw of 59-02.25 (18.04m) and Ryan Shumaker placed fifth with a 57-01.00 (17.40m).
Smith and Shumaker each picked up another top-five finish in shot put. Smith placed fourth with a mark of 52-04.50 (15.96m) and Shumaker finished fifth with a throw of 51-11.00 (15.82m).
Stevie Warren picked up a second-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.88 seconds.
Terri Counts turned in a third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.70 seconds.
Merry Lanker placed fourth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:00.94.
Sasha Leeth and Rickael Roach notched top-five finishes in the weight throw event. Leeth placed third with a throw of 55-09.75 (17.01m), while Roach recorded a distance of 55-01.50 (16.80m) for fifth place.
Roach picked up another top-five finish in shot put with a throw of 44-00.00 (13.41m), which was good enough for fourth place. Maria Pretnar finished fifth in the event with a throw of 42-06.75 (12.97m).
Gwen Berry placed fourth in triple jump with a distance of 35-08.00 (10.87m).
Miracle Thompson placed fourth in pole vault, clearing 11-05.75 (3.50m).
The Salukis will next travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championship, which will be held Sat., March 1 and Sun., March 2 at the Northern Iowa dome. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
