CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois track and field team wrapped up action at the McDonald's Invitational today at the SIU Student Recreation Center.
The Saluki women won the meet with 105.67 points. Memphis finished second with a mark of 84.5, followed by Jacksonville State (60.83), Jackson State (58.33), Murray State (51.33), Belmont (43), Austin Peay (41.5), Samford (40), Southeast Missouri State (14), Rend Lake (12.33), St. Louis University (11), UMKC (10.5), Central Arkansas (6), IPFW (4) and Mississippi Valley (3).
The Saluki men won the meet with 198.5 points and were trailed by Memphis (114), Central Arkansas (79), Samford (38.5), St. Louis University (35), UMKC (29), Mississippi Valley (27), Rend Lake (16) and Southeast Missouri State (8).
Memphis' women swept the top three spots in shot put, provisionally qualifying two athletes for the NCAA meet. SIU's Brittany Riley and Rickael Roach took the fourth and fifth spots in the event, respectively. Riley turned in a throw of 46-09.00 (14.25m) while Roach tossed a 45-05.00 (13.84m).
On the men's side, Brenton Siemons and Thomas Smith took the top-two spots in the shot put event. Siemons won the event with a provisionally qualifying mark of 58-03.00 (17.75m), while Mueller finished second with a throw of 55-09.25 (17.00m).
SIU's top finisher in women's triple jump was Mikeya Nicholson, who finished third with a jump of 37-11.50 (11.57m). On the men's side, Geoffrey Daniel placed third for SIU with a jump of 46-01.25 (14.05m).
Trevor Poore took third place in the men's high jump event for SIU with a mark of 6-03.25 (1.91m).
Bianca Stuart placed third in the 60-meter dash for the Saluki women with a time of 7.72 seconds. Stevie Warren took second place for SIU's men with a time of 6.92 seconds.
Meredith Hayes and Terri Counts placed first and third, respectively in the 60-meter hurdle finals. Hayes won the event with a time of 8.91 seconds, while Counts turned in a time of 8.92 seconds.
In the men's mile run, Kyle Kirchner and Jason Ordway placed first and second. Kirchner won the event with a time of 4:19.22, while Ordway placed second with a time of 4:24.22.
SIU's Jermaine Roberts finished in second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.96 seconds.
The Saluki men collected another win with Jeff Schirmer's first-place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.56.
Stevie Warren picked up a win for the SIU men with a 22.29 seconds performance in the 200-meter dash.
Mark Bowman took second place in the men's 3,000-meter run for SIU with a time of 8:55.80.
The SIU women's A relay team of Kendra Deck, Tredene Davis, Gabbi Meniefield and Kandise Thompson took third place in the 4x400 with a time of 3:53.19. On the men's side, the SIU A team of Willie Knox, Justin Kozak, Sammy Biggs and Stevie Warren won the event with a time of 3:23.32.
The Salukis will be back in action when they travel to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Classic on Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16.
