Salukis take two titles at Jesse Owens Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Southern Illinois University track and field team completed competition at day two of the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio today.
The Salukis won two events and notched 18 top-10 finishes on the second day of the meet, which was hosted by Ohio State. SIU collected seven regional qualifying marks on the day.
SIU's first event victory came when Bianca Stuart posted her best long jump mark of the outdoor season with a 21-02.00 (6.45m), which is a regional qualifying mark.
Brittany Riley picked up the Salukis' second victory with her throw of 224-07 (68.46m) in the hammer throw. The mark surpassed the regional marks.
Rickael Roach regionally qualified in both the hammer throw and the shot put. Roach tossed a 179-05 (54.70m) in the hammer to finish ninth and threw the shot 48-02.50 (14.69m) to finish eighth.
Brenton Siemons also regionally qualified in both the shot put and the hammer throw. Siemons finished tied for fifth in the shot put with a toss of 57-01.00 (17.40m) and placed 14th in the hammer throw with a mark of 193-09 (59.06m).
Thomas Smith joined Siemons as a regional qualifier in the shot put with his seventh-place 55-03.75 (16.86m).
Andrea Norris finished ninth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.90.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Kendra Deck turned in a time of 1:01.45 for a fifth-place finish while Tredene Davis placed sixth at 1:01.47. Both Deck and Davis' times stand as new personal bests this season.
Kandise Thompson ran a personal best time of 56.02 in the 400-meter dash to finish sixth.
Stevie Warren finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a personal-best time of 21.37.
Miracle Thompson tied for eighth place in pole vault action when she cleared 11-07.75 (3.55m). For the men, Blake Brachear tied for third place, clearing 16-00.75 (4.90m).
Geoffrey Daniel finished ninth with a triple jump of 45-09.00 (13.94m). For the women, Judeka Adams placed sixth with a jump of 38-11.00 (11.86m), surpassing her previous personal best of 38-04.25 (11.69m). Mikeya Nicholson finished 10th in triple jump with a mark of 38-01.25 (11.61m).
Jessica Vermeulen finished ninth in the javelin throw with a mark of 114-08 (34.96m).
Trenton McKinney finished sixth in long jump action with a mark of 23-02.00 (7.06m).
The Salukis will take next weekend off before returning to action May 16-18 when they host the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Championship.
