ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Valley Conference announced senior Todd Obergoenner as this week's MVC Golf of the Week on Wednesday following his fourth place finish.
Obergoenner (Cape Girardeau, Mo.) shot a 54-hole 1-under-par 215 to lead the Salukis to a first place finish at the 15-team John Dallio Memorial in Lemont, Ill.
The co-captain opened the tournament, at the par-72, 6,858-yard Ruffled Feathers Golf Course, with a 5-under 67 to tie an 18-hole career-best, and followed with an even-par 72 to sit tied for first place after 36 holes on Sunday. Obergoenner went on to shoot a 4-over 76 in brisk winds in Monday's final round to tie his second-best 54-hole score.
Five Valley schools (Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Northern Iowa, and SIU) were at the tournament, and Obergoenner was the highest individual finisher.
This is the first MVC Golfer of the Week award for a Saluki this season, and the second time Obergoenner has received the weekly honor in his career. He was named golfer of the week on April 9, 2008 following his tied for second finish at the ASU Indian Classic.
The SIU men's golf team will continue play at the Cleveland State Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29-30 in Chardon, Ohio.
