FISHERS, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished in 16th place Tuesday at the MAC Preview hosted by the University of Toledo. The 54-hole tournament was held at the par-72, 6, 114-yard Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers, Ind.
The Salukis posted a team score of 1001 (332-333-336), falling one stroke behind Ohio University. Ball State led the 16-team field, followed by Eastern Michigan and Akron. Missouri Valley Conference rivals Bradley and Indiana State rounded out the top five.
"These were our three highest scores of the season, we just didn't play to our ability," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "We should have been in the top half of this field."
Alisha Matthews garnered a top-twenty finish, recording a 234 to tie for 14th place. Jenna Dombroski shot a 247 while Meg Gilley was not far behind with a 250. Alex Anderson and Amber Phillips rounded out the Saluki lineup turning in scores of 270 and 276, respectively.
"We have a lot of time in the off-season to work hard on certain areas," Daugherty said. "We will have Shaina Rennegarbe back in the spring and we will enter the season with a positive attitude."
The Salukis will return to action Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C.
