TULSA, Okla. - The SIU men's tennis team opened up play with the qualifying rounds at the ITA Central Regionals Thursday in Tulsa, Okla. Two Salukis - Pavlo Buryi and Jordan Snyder - participated in the qualifier portion of the tournament. Yet, both fell in their respective matches.
Buryi, after dropping the first set, came back and captured the second set in tiebreakers from Saint Louis' Drew Feder. However, Buryi was unable to pull out a win, falling 6-3, 6-7(3), 10-1.
In the other match of the day, Jordan Snyder was defeated in straight sets by another opponent from SLU in P.J. Hendrie 6-0, 6-2.
"Both Pavlo and Jordan had perfect opportunities to come up with a win today and did not capitalize on them," said head coach Dann Nelson. "Pavlo was able to fight back after losing the first set. I was pleased with the way he fought to stay in the match and put himself in a position to win."
"We have nothing to loose and everything to gain by winning matches here. We need to capitalize on every opportunity."
