Pre-game Notes
SIU Captains: 4, 15, 60, 66
Southern Illinois won the toss, elected to receive. YSU to defend the South goal.
First Quarter
Senior right tackle Shawn Smith made his 45th-consecutive start and senior linebacker Brandin Jordan made his 41th career start.
Youngstown State drove down to the SIU 25-yard line on its opening drive, only to be stopped on a third and fourth down with only one yard to go on both plays.
Joe Allaria and Bryce Morris both had catches in the first quarter, giving them 14- and 11-straight games with a reception, respectively.
Fred Wright blocked SIU's first punt of the season and it extended SIU's streak to 17-straight games with at least one turnover forced.
Second Quarter
Paul McIntosh completed his first pass of the game to Allaria and he took it in 86 yards in for the score, which is the second longest touchdown pass in school history.
Brandon Jordan's tackle at 4:34 of the period was his fourth of the game. It gave him 328 career tackles, which ranks 10th in school history.
YSU's Stephen Blose missed a 25-yard field goal at 3:09 and that is the sixth time this season an opponent has got into the Saluki red zone, but were held to no points.
This was the first time this season that Southern Illinois has not given up any points in the first half.
Third Quarter
Deji Karim went over 1,000 yards rushing on his 13th carry of the game. He did so on his 132nd rush of the year, becoming the third fastest Saluki to 1,000 yards. It came in game No. 7 on the year, which ties for the third fastest in Missouri Valley Football Conference history.
Karim scored his 10th rushing touchdown of the season at 8:52. It was the 18th of his career, tying for the ninth most in school history.
Brandin Jordan's sack at 7:10 was his first solo one of the game, but he shared a sack with Chance Coda in the first half.
Allaria recorded his second 100-yard receiving game of the season.
Kyle Dougherty booted a 44-yard field goal at 1:35, which was the 41st of his career. He ranks second in school history for the most field goals made in a career.
Fourth Quarter
Youngstown State ended a seven-quarter scoreless streak against SIU with a 56-yard Summers to Pitts touchdown pass.
Kyle Walker recovered the Penguin onside kick attempt at 9:54.
Korey Lindsey intercepted two passes and had a sack in the final five minutes of the game. He now ranks No. 3 in school history with 13 interceptions and he has six on the year. It was his second multi-interception game of the season and the fourth of his career.
