COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished 15th at the Johnie Imes Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri. The 18-team tournament took place at the 6,204-yard, par 72 Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
The Salukis sat in 16th place yesterday following round one, but pulled ahead of Iowa in the final two rounds for the 15th place finish, posting a team score of 960 (324-322-314). No. 41 Wisconsin led the tournament, followed by Tulsa, Missouri, Mississippi and Illinois State.
"We had a much better day today with three rounds in the 70's," said head coach Diane Daugherty. "It's always a good thing when you beat a Big Ten school."
Freshman Jenna Dombroski jumped up the leaderboard to tie for 29th place of 98 golfers after finishing tied for the No. 51 spot yesterday. Dombroski carded a 233 (77-82-74), recording a career-low 18-hole score of 74. Sophomore Meg Gilley shot a 236 (81-77-78) while classmate Alisha Matthews posted a 240 (78-83-79). Alex Anderson posted a final score of 251 (88-80-83) and Amber Matthews wrapped up her first collegiate appearance with a 300 (101-105-94).
The Salukis will return to action Oct. 12-13 at the MAC Preview in Fishers, Ind.
