Memorial Service for Billy Patrick This Saturday

CARBONDALE, Ill. - A memorial service for Southern Illinois alum Billy Patrick is being held on the morning of this Saturday's Homecoming at McAndrew Stadium, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Patrick played for the Salukis in 1967 and '68 and coached at SIU in 1975. The Murphysboro, Ill. resident and native of Broken Bow, Okla., passed away in California on July 15, at the age of 62.

Roger Lipe will officiate the service, which is open to the public. Speakers include former teammate and Saluki Hall of Famer Carl Mauck, former linebacker Leonard Hopkins (1972-75), Hall of Fame broadcaster Mike Reis as well as Clay Brewer and Rod Brickey.

Following the memorial service, there will be the annual Homecoming chili tailgate, which Patrick founded in 1976.
