Swimming and Diving drops dual meet at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southern Illinois swimming and diving teams fell to tough Missouri squads Saturday afternoon as both the men and women dropped their season dual records to 3-2.
On the women's side, Mizzou defeated the Salukis, 153-80. Kirsten Groome was the only member of the women's team to post top times in her events. The Shreveport, La. native recorded two victories in the 1000 free (9:59.79) and the 200 fly (2:04.38).
Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week Therese Mattsson placed third in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.80. Diver Emily Gable turned in a solid performance, scoring a second-place 262.80 in the 1-meter and a third-place 270.07 in the 3-meter.
The Tigers topped the Saluki men, 144-90, marking their first dual victory of the season. Southern got on the board early with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay. El Badrawi notched a third-place finish in the 1000 free (9:39.17) as well as a first-place finish in the 500 free (4:39.85).
Matt Parsons finished first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:53.68. Tony Bousquet placed second in the 50 and 100 free and Cesar Perez placed second in the 200 IM to add 12 points to SIU's total.
Southern Illinois will return to the pool when it hosts the 2009 Division II National Champions Drury, Thursday, Nov. 19 at 2:00 p.m. The meet will be the last dual competition for the Salukis before the Mizzou Invitational Dec. 4-6.
