No. 3 seed Southern Illinois (10-1) opens up the first round of the 2009 NCAA Division I Football Championship this Saturday when they play host to Eastern Illinois (8-3)at 1 p.m. in McAndrew Stadium... This will be the third meeting since 2005 between the two schools in the first round of the playoffs -- SIU won the first two matchups... Fans can listen to all the action with "Voice of the Salukis" Mike Reis, Gene Green and Joel Sambursky on the Saluki Sports Network beginning at noon on WVZA-FM 105.1 in Carbondale... The Salukis, ranked No. 1 in The Sports Network Poll, come into the playoffs with a 10-game winning streak. They received the automatic bid by winning the outright Missouri Valley Football Conference Championship with an 8-0 league record... Eastern Illinois, ranked No.19 in by the TSN, is the automatic qualifier from the Ohio Valley Conference... Southern Illinois is making its seventh-straight playoff appearance and its eighth in school history. Only Montana has a longer streak of consecutive playoff appearances (17)...This contest matches up the Panthers, who are a very strong road team that only lost once on the road (which came at Penn State), with the Salukis who have a 40-5 record at home since 2003... Senior running back Deji Karim leads the nation with 1,512 rushing yards and he has scored 16 rushing touchdowns, but the Panthers only allow opponents to rush for 119.2 yards per game and have not allowed a 100-yard rusher all season long.
Saluki Headlines
Southern Illinois is making its seventh-straight playoff appearance and the eighth overall in program history.
Running back Deji Karim is looking to become the first to rush for over 100-yards against the Eastern Illinois defense.
The Salukis are 40-5 at home since 2003, with three of those losses coming in the playoffs.
Ticket Information
Following NCAA regulations, all ticket prices will be the same as they were throughout the regular season. Reserved tickets are available for $20 while general admission seats are priced at $17. All SIU students and those 18 and under can purchase tickets for $6. Kids two and under will receive free admission.
Season ticket holders are asked to complete the Ticket Request Form and fax or mail the order form into the SIU Arena Ticket Office. Their seat locations will be held until Wednesday, Nov. 25 at noon. Please contact the SIU Arena Ticket Office at 1-877-Salukis for further information.
The Saluki athletic department will also have a football and basketball package available for sale only at the SIU Arena Ticket Office. Fans can purchase a general admission ticket to the football game and an upper bowl ticket to the men's basketball game versus Illinois-Chicago at the price of $25 for adults and $15 for youth.
SIU's ticket office will be open Monday and Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
