CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's basketball team will come together with Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) for the Third Annual "Pink Out" of SIU Arena Saturday, Feb. 21, against Indiana State for breast cancer awareness.
For the second-straight year, Saluki Athletics will be handing out 800 "Pink Out" Piggy Banks, sponsored by Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) prior to the event. The banks will be available Saturday, Feb. 7, at the 2 p.m. women's basketball game against Northern Iowa.
In 2008, the donations from the Piggy Banks in addition to ticket sales and other proceeds helped the "Pink Out" raise more than $10,000 for breast cancer.
Anyone who brings back a piggy bank with donations will get free admission into the game Feb. 21 and get their name put in a drawing for prizes. All donations from the piggy banks will be collected via a Wish You Well stationed in the front lobby and will go directly to the SIH Women with Hope - a breast cancer support group.
All tickets for the "Pink Out" are $2 with $1 going to the SIH Women with Hope support group. "Pink Out" shirts will be given out courtesy of SIH to the first 1,000 fans to arrive. All Breast Cancer Survivors will receive free admission, a shirt and the opportunity to be recognized at half time. The Salukis will wear pink uniforms provided by Russell.
Doors will open at noon for Pink Zone activities including inflatables, games, face painting and hair coloring on the upper concourse of the arena. For more information on the "Pink Out" call (618) 453-5153.
