Scheil named MVC Golfer of the Week

ST. LOUIS -The Missouri Valley Conference announced junior Patrick Scheil as this week's MVC Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after finishing a career-best third place at the GEICO Intercollegiate.
Scheil (Williamsburg, Va., Walsingham Academy) led the Salukis with his first-career top five finish with an 8-over 224 at the 14-team GEICO Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga. Friday and Saturday.
Less than a week removed from finishing a previous career-best 13th at the Samford Inercollegiate (March 9-10), Scheil stormed out with an opening-round 1-under-par 71 - which was just a single stroke off his career low. He wrapped up the first day with a 76, and concluded the tournament with a 77 on Saturday to help SIU claim its second win of the 2008-09 season.
Scheil has been the team's top finisher in each of the first two spring tournaments.
This is Scheil's first golfer of the week award and the second time this year a Saluki men's golfer has won. Senior John Daneilson earned the distinction after last fall's UTA/Waterchase Invitational on Oct. 29.
