CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Saluki softball team (26-10) concludes their season-long six-game road trip with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Saint Louis (18-24) on Wednesday at the Billiken Sports Center.
The midweek match up will be the second to last non-conference opponent for SIU, after the team added a home doubleheader against Morehead State for next Thursday, April 30.
Southern Illinois enters the two games with a 1-3 mark during the road swing, while Saint Louis is on a two-game win streak after sweeping last Friday's doubleheader from Saint Joseph's. The Billikens also had their Saturday doubleheader against Temple rained out.
SIU leads the all-time series 36-2, and has won the last four games against SLU, including two wins at home, 5-0 and 5-2, last season. The last time the Salukis lost to Saint Louis was in 2003 in St. Louis by a score of 5-4.
Southern dropped out of the national rankings today for the first time since early February. SIU had spent nine-straight weeks in at least one of the two major polls, and came close to the program record of 13-straight weeks ranked set in 2007. The team is still receiving seven votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll.
The Salukis begin a busy week and a half to conclude the regular season. Including Wednesday's doubleheader, SIU will play a total of 13 games in the final 12 days of the season with nine of the 13 in conference.
The games against SLU will unfortunately not be available on Saluki All-Access, but Thursday's 4 p.m. game against Evansville at home will be broadcasted as scheduled.
