CARBONDALE, Ill. - Senior men's golf co-captain Todd Obergoenner was selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V First Team on Thursday.
It was Obergoenner's second straight year named to the district's academic first team after the Cape Girardeau, Mo. native posted his best all-around season of his career.
Obergoenner, who held a 4.0 in exercise science, followed up his breakout junior year with an even better senior campaign.
He had a season career-best 74.4 stroke average, which ranked fifth in the entire MVC and eighth all-time in the program's history, and earned All-MVC honors by finishing a career-best tie for fourth at the MVC Championship.
The individual highlight of the regular-season was when he claimed a tie for first place at the ASU Red Wolf Classic with his second-lowest 54-hole score of 211 (-5).
Obergoenner played in every tournament, and placed in the top-five twice, top-10 four times, and top-20 in six events. He opened the stellar season with three-straight top 10s, including a tie for fourth place at the John Dallio Memorial.
He also put his name in the Saluki record book with a 67 (-5) at the John Dallio Memorial, which ranked tied for fifth all-time for an 18-hole score.
Obergoenner's leadership helped SIU to one of the best season's in the program's history with three tournament wins, and seven top-five team finishes.
