CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois women's basketball coach Missy Tiber signed Renee Reed for the 2009-10 season. On Thursday, Tiber announced that the Covington High School (Tenn.) product has signed a letter of intent to play for SIU.
Reed, a 5-8 guard from Covington, Tenn., was a four-year varsity starter for the Chargers. As a senior, she averaged 17.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 steals per contest. The four-time All-District 13-AA pick, was also a three-time All-District Tournament Team selection. She won the CHS Athletic Achievement Award and was chosen to play in the West Tennessee Golden Circle All-Star Game.
"Renee will be a great fit for our program," Tiber said. "She has the ability to spread the floor with her outside shooting, but is also very athletic and can take her defender to the basket. I love her attitude and humble nature. She will be a joy to coach and I'm excited that she chose the Saluki program."
Reed will join incoming freshmen Katerina Garcia and Terri Oliver, along with junior college transfer Nneka Nwani as members of the 2009-10 class.
