What was your impression of the team portion of camp today? How did you feel your offense looked?
Offensively, it was a good day this morning. I thought our execution was good, and we were very good with just doing the little things right. I just thought the tempo was improved from yesterday.
How long does it usually take an offense to develop cohesiveness in camp?
It's an ongoing process naturally. The more success you have, the more cohesiveness you develop, and it's a day-by-day progression.
After 10 days of training camp, who are some of the unexpected players that have stood out to you?
Well, right now I'd hate to label unexpected because that would mean I had no expectations for them coming in. But right now, I like what I'm seeing. I think we're developing both our starters and our depth, and I just don't like singling out anyone too early.
What are some of the things you look for in a player for them to get noticed regardless of position?
Making plays. If you're a lineman, you have to be at the point of attack and executing the block. If you're a receiver, you have to make catches and make plays, and if you're a running back, you have to be sound in your assignments and make runs count. It's just that whole ability to make plays.
Are special teams a good way to earn playing time?
It's a great way to just get a feel for the game. The college game is a lot faster than high school, so sometimes, a lot of the younger players get their first playing experience with special teams, and that just basically prepares them for the future when they play full time on offense or defense. So, it's a real good compliment when you can bring a young player out.
