CARBONDALE, Ill.
- First Quarter
SIU Captains: 5, 18, 92, 97
Southwest Baptist struck first Saturday night, scoring on a nine-play, 78-yard drive at 12:40. That marked just the second time in the last 18 games that SIU did not score first.
Senior Deji Karim returned SBU's first kickoff back 82 yards for a touchdown at the 12:30 mark. It was the fourth kickoff return for a touchdown under head coach Dale Lennon (the previous three were in 2008 by Larry Warner).
Korey Lindsey intercepted his ninth career pass on SBU's second drive of the game. He now has an interception in his last three games.
Senior right tackle Shawn Smith started in his 40th-consecutive game.
Free safety Mike McElroy intercepted Gachette's pass at 4:38, giving SIU seven-straight games with at least two turnovers forced. It was McElroy's fourth career interception.
Quarterback Chris Dieker's 77-yard touchdown pass to Joe Allaria was the longest completion of his career.
SIU held a 17-7 lead after the first quarter and have now outscored its opposition 124-30 in the last 14 games.
Second Quarter
Dieker threw his second touchdown pass of the game at 13:10 to Jeff Evans. It was the second receiving touchdown in Evans' career.
Karim scored SIU's first rushing touchdown by a running back at 11:12 on a six-yard run, giving the Salukis a 31-7 lead.
Southern Illinois did not punt until the 7:32 mark of the second quarter.
A finished the half with seven catches for 144 yards. His seven receptions set a new career-high (previous was five) and this was his first-career 100-yard receiving game.
SIU finished the half with 364 yard of total offense. It was 53 more than they had in the entire Marshall game.
Dieker's three total TDs in the first half gave him five career games with three or more total touchdowns.
Third Quarter
Karim's scored his third touchdown on a career-long 61 yard run 29 seconds into the second quarter. He went over 200 yards rushing early in the third period. His previous career-high was 101 yards on Sept. 29, 2007 at Indiana State.
Lindsey intercepted his second pass of the game at 6:45, moving him into a tie for seventh with 10 career picks.
Fourth Quarter
Lucien Walker scored his second career touchdown at the 6:49 mark.
