CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois football team is ranked in the Top 25 for the 97th consecutive week, breaking the all-time Missouri Valley Football Conference record for most consecutive weeks in the Top 25.
SIU (2-3, 1-1 MVFC) came in ranked No. 21 in the FCS Coaches and No. 23 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com Top 25 polls that were both released on Monday.
The Salukis' current streak, which started in the beginning of the 2003 season, passes Northern Iowa's streak of 96-straight weeks in the Top 25 from 1990-97.
Southern Illinois hosts No. 15 UNI, which currently has been ranked in 73-consecutive regular season polls, this Saturday on Homecoming weekend at SIU. The Salukis and Panthers kick off at 2 p.m. in Saluki Stadium.
