Pre-game Notes
- SIU Captains: 14, 47
- Chance Coda and Korey Lindsey made their 35th consecutive starts.
First Quarter
- Steve Strother made his first career start.
- SIU's game opening drive went 75 yards on 17 plays and took up 8:48. All 17 plays were rushes and that is the longest drive of the season (in terms of plays and time).
- Korey Lindsey had a 22-yard punt return at 4:45 to give SIU the ball at the WIU 22-yard line.
- SIU's first pass of the game didn't come until the 2:56 mark. It was on the Salukis' 21st play of the game (10-yard Chris Dieker to John Goode pass).
- Lucien Walker ran for his first touchdown since the season opener on Sept. 2 against Quincy. He ran for three scores that day.
- Southern Illinois had 107 yards of offense in the first quarter (97 rushing). It was its fifth 100-yard first quarter this year.
- The Salukis controlled the ball for 11:02 of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
- Joe Allaria's catch around the 13-minute mark gave him a catch in 30-consecutive games.
- SIU converted its third fourth-down of the game in the first 17 minutes. Southern started 2-of-5 on third downs and 3-of-3 on fourth downs.
- The Salukis were stopped on a fourth-and-1 at the WIU 10-yard line at 6:38.
- Korey Lindsey's pass breakup at 3:30 was the 15th of his career, tying him for the 10th most in school history.
- Chris Dieker's 12th carry of the game at 2:25 set a new career-high for the senior.
- Steve Strother had 15 carries in the first half, which is more than he's had in any other game in his career. He ran for 71 yards.
- The three points that Western Illinois scored in the first half is the fewest points it has put up in a first of a game this season.
- The Salukis held the ball for 20:46 of the 30 minutes in the first half.
Third Quarter
- Southern Illinois held WIU to three-and-out on its first drive of the second half.
- Chris Dieker's seven-yard run on SIU's third play of the second half gave the Salukis a first down. SIU did not have a first down on its first drive of the second half in any of the past four games and they were held to minus eight yards in the last four games.
- Robert Spann recorded his second sack of the season and first since the Illinois game on Sept. 11 at 8:40. It was the third and a half sack of his career.
- Cam Fuller caught the first pass of his career at 4:45.
- Strother went over 100 yards rushing for the first time in his career on his 22nd carry of the game. It gave SIU three different running back with 100-yard rushing games this season. The last time three different Salukis had 100-yard rushing games in the season season was in 2006, but the last time it happened with three running backs doing so was in 2004 (five different running backs did so that year when SIU rushed for a school record 3,404 yards as a team.
Fourth Quarter
- Cam Fuller caught his first career touchdown on a five yard pass from Dieker. It came on his second career catch.
- Jayson DiManche had sacks on back-to-back plays on WIU's first drive of the fourth quarter.
- Steve Strother's fumble at 12:21 was the first turnover of the game.
