Women's Golf wraps up play at Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Southern Illinois University women's golf team finished in 28th place at the Kiawah Island Classic. The 54-hole tournament consisted of 33 teams and was hosted by College of Charleston.
SIU moved up two spots from their 30th place standing on day one, finishing ahead of Winthrop, Old Dominion, Bucknell, Citadel and USC Upstate. The Salukis posted a team score of 977 (331-323-323) for their finish.
Miami pulled ahead one day three to take first place, while Minnesota and Augusta State finished close behind. Oral Roberts and East Carolina finished tied for fourth place to round out the top five.
Meg Gilley pulled ahead to lead the Salukis after round three with a score of 238 (80-80-78). Alisha Matthews finished two strokes behind Gilley with a 240 (77-79-84). Shaina Rennegarbe improved each day, shooting a 78 on the last 18 holes to match the team high for the day. The freshman posted a final score of 249 (88-83-78). Alex Anderson and Jenna Dombroski round out the Saluki lineup with 250 (86-81-83) and 264 (89-90-85), respectively.
"I was very happy with Meg and Shaina's performances," head coach Diane Daugherty said. "Everyone is improving and it was great to play in the sun. We are looking forward to Arizona as well."
SIU will be back in action March 5-7 as they travel to Rio Verde, Ariz. for the Rio Verde Invitational.
