JACKSON, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois men's golf team moved up two spots in the ranks, finishing sixth at their first tournament of the spring season, UT-Martin's Grover Page Classic.
In Tuesday's final round of 18-holes, the Salukis shot a 304 to bring their total score over the two days to 920. Central Arkansas took home the title for the third time in four years with a score of 847.
Patrick Scheil finished on top for the Dawgs, carding all three rounds in the 70s and marking his fourth finish inside the top-20 this year, tied for 17th place out of 85 individuals.
Jeffrey Miller recorded the lowest 54-hole score of his young collegiate career, shooting 230 and finishing tied for 28th.
Jordan Cox and Blake Driskell shot a 75 and 77 in Tuesday's round three, finishing with identical scores of 232.
Jake Erickson and Clay Yates fired third rounds of 83 and 85 to round out the final day of competition.
"We played pretty well despite the tough weather conditions so I'm not too disappointed," said head coach Leroy Newton. "Everyone did as well as we expected and we learned a lot on what we need to improve for our next tournament."
The Salukis are on the road again March 8-9 when they travel to Oneonta, Ala. to participate in the Samford Intercollegiate.
