Five Track and Field athletes compete at Arkansas Final Qualifier

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams took five athletes to the Arkansas Final Qualifier in hopes of moving them up the descending order lists to advance to the NCAA Indoor National Championships Mar. 12-13.
Kandise Thompson finished seventh in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.78, a provisional qualifying mark. The junior garnered her best mark of the season last weekend at the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships, 24.17. Thompson also won the 400-meter dash in 54.24, a provisional mark and her best of the season.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Meredith Hayes finished fourth in 8.56, just missing the provisional mark.
On the men's side, Brandon Deloney finished 11th in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.77, missing the provisional mark. At the MVC Championships last weekend, he recorded a season-best 21.11 surpassing the 21.23 provisional mark.
Cody Doerflein finished third in the pole vault after clearing a provisional mark with 17-02.25 (5.25m). The sophomore vaulter could not surpass his season-best 17-04.5 (5.30m).
Finally, J.C. Lambert recorded a season-best mark in the weight throw winning the event with a toss of 69-02 (21.08m).
