Rio Verde Invitational Final Results
RIO VERDE, Ariz. - The Southern Illionis women's golf team played through rain and cold weather to wrap up the final round of the Rio Verde Invitational. The Salukis shot a 328 on the final day of competition to finish 14th out of 18 teams. SIU finished ahead of Penn State, Ohio, Akron and Bowling Green state.
Michigan earned the title, holding on to the No. 1 spot all three rounds. Minnesota, Eastern Michigan, Arkansas-Little Rock and Kansas round out the top-five spots.
Sophomore Meg Gilley shot three rounds in the 70's to finish in 28th place overall, posting a 233 (78-76-79). Shaina Rennegarbe came in second for the Salukis with a 238 (81-75-82), while Alisha Matthews posted a 243 (80-79-84). Jenna Dombroski shot in the low-80's at the Rio Verde Invite, turning in a final score of 244 (81-80-83). Alex Anderson rounds out the Saluki lineup shooting a 257 (87-79-91).
"I'm glad we were able to hold on to the No. 14 spot, and it's always good to beat a Big Ten school," head coach Diane Daugherty said. "We are looking forward to a good practice in Florida and next week's tournament."
The Salukis are back in action March 11-12 at the EKU El Diablo Spring Invitational in Citrus Springs, Fla.
