The Southern Illinois baseball team ends an eight-game home stand this weekend when it entertains Bradley in its second Missouri Valley Conference series of the season. All three games at Abe Martin Field will be broadcast on WFRX 1300-AM (102.5-FM at Abe Martin Field only) with "Voice of the Salukis" Mike Reis calling the games. Live stats and video streaming are available at www.SIUSalukis.com.
Friday's game is set for 1 p.m. and the 14th annual Saluki Baseball Fish Fry follows at 5 p.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center. First pitch for Saturday's game is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's series final begins at 1 p.m.
The Saluki pitching staff has given up four runs or less in seven out of the last nine games. They have dropped the team ERA over two full points in the last 10 games.
Southern Illinois has won six out of its last nine games.
This weekend's series will put the Salukis halfway through the 2010 season. SIU only has 12 remaining home games after this weekend and the two conference series played in Carbondale are against Indiana State (April 23-25) and versus Evansville (May 14-15).
Head coach Dan Callahan needs two victories against Bradley to give him 200 wins in the Missouri Valley Conference. He will become the fifth coach in league history to win 200 victories in the conference.
The Salukis have hit home runs in seven out of their last nine games. They have belted 12 total homers in that same span.
