Quick Hits
The Southern Illinois baseball team steps outside of conference play to host SIU-Edwardsville for a three-game series at Abe Martin Field, April 30-May 2. The Salukis own a 20-8 record in program history against the Cougars, but this is the first meeting since 1992.
All three games will be broadcast by the Saluki Radio Network on WFRX 1300-AM. The combination of Chris Hagstrom, Sean Patrick, Patrick Erickson and Bret Beherns will be delivering the Saluki baseball action. Radio streaming is available at www.SIUSalukis.com, along with live stats of all three games.
The Salukis are 8-3 this season against teams from the Ohio Valley Conference and are 222-92-4 in program history against teams currently in the OVC.
Senior right-handed pitcher Nathan Forer entered the week ranked No. 4 nationally with his 1.48 ERA. It is the second-straight week he was ranked fourth in the category.
Senior catcher Tyler Bullock leads the Missouri Valley Conference with his 11 runners that he has caught stealing.
SIU's 40 home runs are more than they've hit in each of the past six seasons. The Salukis hit 41 homers in 2003 and are on pace to finish this season with 54.
Southern Illinois has 14 games remaining on its schedule, and half of those will be played at `The Abe'.
The Salukis have won eight out of their last 11 non-conference games. The Dawgs are hitting .325 as a team outside of league play and have belted 28 homers.
Sophomore first baseman Chris Serritella only needs to hit four more home runs to tie the SIU single-season record. Serritella is tied for first in the MVC with 12 homers this year and he also leads the team with his .364 batting average and 47 RBIs. His 47 runs driven in are more than any Saluki has had in the two previous seasons.
