Southern Illinois is looking to win more than five consecutive games for the first time since 2007 when SIU had two separate eight-game winning streaks.
SIU has won four of the last five against SEMO (including both games in 2009) and two of the last three in Cape Girardeau, Mo. SIU leads the all-time series 45-23-1 and head coach Dan Callahan is 12-14 against the Redhawks.
The Salukis are hitting .332 and average 8.4 runs in non-conference games. In league play, SIU is hitting .262 and averages 4.2 runs.
SIU has a 5-2 record against Ohio Valley Conference teams this year (2-1 vs. Jacksonville State; 2-0 vs. UT Martin; 1-0 vs. Eastern Illinois and 0-1 vs. Murray State).
The Dawgs are looking to push their record over .500 for the first time this year and for the first time since 2008 when SIU had a 34-23 record.
SIU reached its 14th win in six fewer games than they did in 2009. The 14th win in 2009 came in game 34 and was a 4-2 win at SEMO in 10 innings.
